Ki
Ki is a floor chair that has been designed to refresh and reimagine
what a floor chair would look like in 2021. To give both timeless design
while providing the comfort of sitting on the floor
A two week project that explored various iteration of designs and to experiment with different rendering textures

Inspiration
The concept takes inspiration from Japanese tea ceremony culture as
well as ryokan which are traditional Japanese inns.

Ideation Sketches
Three different designs were chosen to be 3D modelled and rendered to explore if the chair was feasible and to explore the forms of the chair

Design Three was chosen to be further developed because of its feasibility of being produce and its potential for exploration.
Exploration

Version 1
This version has an extended backrest to help support the middle of the back allowing the user to lean back.

Version 2
Very little change from the initial ideation. This
version updates materials to have a plastic base and top piece.

Version 3
In the cushion of this version there is a slight indentation to ensure that the user is sitting in the center of the chair.

Version 4
The middles cushion between the top pieces and the main cushion were replaced with metal pipes to provide a more modern take to a floor chair
Chosen Design

Version 3
This design was chosen for steel retaining the elegance of a classic floor chair with indented molded foam providing a more comfortable experience to the user
